Time to move on

Christmas has gone and for some unknown reason I feel I have to do the same. I’m thoroughly disenchanted with the idea of blogging, websites and all that guff, so I’m selling my domain names. If you’re looking for a fully functioning blog you can have baythemoon.com for £1,000 including, of course, ownership of the name as well as the functionality of the site. I’m also selling www.thetoptengame.com (£400) and www.thetoptengame.co.uk (£300). Although there are no sites attached to those domain names. Drop me a line if you’re interested. My email address is at the bottom of this page.

Merry Chrimbo

Just a quickie to say Merry Krimble to all those of you who visit this site from time to time, especially those from America, China and Russia. Haven’t you got anything better to do?

Dear Santa

BayTheMoon’s Christmas wish is that someone could see their way to dropping something large and explosive onto:

  1. Every building in Downing Street for reasons which require no explanation.
  2. Channel 5 television studios for broadcasting big brother.
  3. The homes of the knobheads who watch big brother.
  4. The offices of every banking boss.
  5. The offices of brainless union leaders.
  6. BBC Breakfast news because the presenters look like dickheads.
  7. The offices of every newspaper in the country because it’s bollocks to say we need journalism.
  8. The offices of so-called lawmakers because they don’t know what a crime is.
  9. All stores that sell polyester clothing.
  10. All factories that make polyester clothing.

I reserve the right to add to this list between now and December 25th.

(Actually all I really want is a few pairs of thermal undies!)

Time to re-tailor the retailers. (or How the UK is flagellating itself).

I’m not super smart, nor am I stupid, but I don’t get it. We are apparently in some sort of serious economic situation and they say the only way out of it is to wait for the ‘recovery’, which, as I understand it, can only start to happen when people start buying stuff again, but that can’t happen because people can’t afford to start buying stuff again.

Why?

Because in the past year or so every retailer in the country has increased prices by about 20% or more. My food bill is up by a third, but I eat like a pigeon. My gas bill is up by 20%, but I only put the heating on when it’s so cold it’s physically painful. Motor fuel is almost as expensive as a really good Merlot. None of these retailers are paying higher wages and their bank balances could easily withstand the store overheads, so why the increases? Why is it that the only people suffering the recession are the ones that can least afford it?

Surely, if all businesses reduced their prices, by say 20%, we would all buy more stuff which would keep the businesses in business while we all ride out the storm.

Some companies could give a little back during these hard times too, they can all afford to.

  • Virgin Media phone and broadband charges, train and plane fares, no reduction in price.
  • Sky, no reduction in price.
  • BT phone charges and line rental, increased not decreased even though they too make billions.
  • Car tax and insurance, they could all be reduced.
  • Mobile phone charges are an obvious one, they have been ripping us off for years, so how about giving some of it back?
  • Look at the likes of Apple music downloads, no reduction in price even though they are making billions of bucks in profits each year.

Why do companies feel they have to maintain or increase their profits every year? It is unsustainable. The belief that it is doable is what caused the problems we now have.

Greed. There has to be a limit.

Deconstructing construction

I’ve spent most of the past two weeks working on one of our construction sites rather than being stuck in the office and it has had two distinct effects: I can now walk uphill even faster than I could before and before I’ve barely finished my evening meal I fall asleep in the armchair about 8pm. Any chance there might be a connection?

It’s a funny old business is the construction business. The problem is it doesn’t make me laugh. Never before have I encountered an industry which has so many charlatans working in it. No matter what trade you wish to name, we have met them all at one time or another over the past few years. There are of course plenty of hard-working, honest tradesmen (sorry but we’ve never seen a female site worker) but they are completely overshadowed by the endless string of time-wasting con artists and pretenders. I’m left stupefied when shown the ‘quality’ of their work. Added to the shoddy workmanship is the petty squabbling they get up to, like children bickering over the ownership of a football. It’s enough to drive you mad. At least it would be if I wasn’t already mad.

For Pete’s sake, gis’ a job someone?
